A Romantic Weekend in Honfleur
— Two Days (or Five) Just for You

la petite folie à honfleur

Some towns have a rare gift: they slow time down. Honfleur is one of them. Cobbled lanes, the Vieux Bassin mirrored in still water, evening light that once undid Monet, Boudin and Courbet — everything here invites softness, presence, and each other.

Why Honfleur Is the Ideal Romantic Getaway?

Honfleur isn’t a destination like any other. A protected Norman port town, it’s one of the rare places where exceptional heritage, food, art and atmosphere all come together. « The Vieux Bassin » , its tall slate-fronted houses mirrored in the water, is one of France’s most romantic living paintings.

The town has inspired generations of artists — Eugène Boudin, Claude Monet, Gustave Courbet, and composer Erik Satie, who was born here — and that artistic aura lingers in every lane, every café, every terrace. A weekend here means letting a little of that beauty into your own story.

Just 2 Hours from Paris — Escape Without the Effort

From Paris, Honfleur is under 2 hours away via the A13, right by the Pont de Normandie. No flights to book, no weeks of planning (though in high season, book your apartment ahead of time). Leave the office on a Friday evening, and two hours later you’re having dinner by the harbour, a glass of Pays d’Auge cider in hand.

That proximity is exactly what makes Honfleur perfect for a spontaneous escape or a carefully planned one. On weekdays, the town regains a precious calm — ideal for couples who want it (almost) to themselves.

Four Seasons, Four Romantic Moods

♥  Spring: blossoming apple orchards across the Pays d’Auge, soft light, the first café terraces, and smaller crowds than summer.

♥  Summer: lively markets, long evenings, boat trips on the Seine estuary, and flea markets throughout the Pays d’Auge villages.

♥  Autumn: blazing colours, the low painters’ light, seasonal markets, and local events across the Pays d’Auge.

♥  Winter: absolute calm, log fires in the restaurants, a cocooning mood, and Honfleur almost exclusively yours.

La Petite Folie: Your Love Nest in the Heart of the Old Town

La Petite Folie sits two minutes from « the Vieux Bassin » — and a world away from its bustle. That gentle tension between closeness and retreat is exactly what makes it Honfleur’s ideal romantic address.

Apartments Designed for Two

La Petite Folie is designed first and foremost for couples and adults, which shapes the whole experience: no corridor noise, no noisy neighbours — just Norman rooftops through the window and the gulls and cormorants drifting past. One child, generally from around 6 to 10 years old, can be accommodated, but only in one of our two Prestige apartments; the other six are for two adults. For a family stay, we’re always happy to point you toward Le Clos de Grâce, our second property on the hills above Honfleur, with its grounds, pool and family-friendly gîte and apartments.

Our 8 apartments are all different, each dressed by an interior designer. Depending on your mood, choose the Claude Monet apartment and its luminous glass roof, or Charles Baudelaire with its « jungle » spirit and reclaimed parquet — each one invites you into a different world.

Extra Touches for an Even Better Stay

La Petite Folie doesn’t stop at a beautiful setting. Louise and Sukru, who run the house, are there to make your stay complete:

♥  Breakfast served in your apartment or in the lounge (on request)

♥  A massage in our dedicated treatment room — ideal for a relaxed evening together

♥  Personal recommendations: restaurants, itineraries, the best romantic tables for dinner

♥  A warm, attentive welcome, at a genuinely human scale

Celebrating an anniversary or an engagement? Just mention it when booking, and we’re happy to prepare a small touch on arrival — flowers, a bottle of something cold, a decorated room.

Staying Longer: A 4-5 Day Norman Escape

Two days is enough to fall for Honfleur. Four or five let you actually explore this corner of Normandy properly — at the same unhurried pace, just with more of it.

Day 3 — Deep into the Pays d'Auge

Head inland for a day among half-timbered villages, apple orchards and cider farms. Beuvron-en-Auge, one of France’s official « most beautiful villages, » is about 35 minutes away — postcard-perfect and made for slow wandering. Stop at a working cider or calvados producer along the way, and let the afternoon run late over a farmhouse lunch.

Day 4 — The Côte Fleurie, at Your Own Pace

Deauville and Trouville are 25 minutes from La Petite Folie: the boardwalk, the Belle Époque seafront, an afternoon that feels effortlessly elegant without the price tag or crowds of Paris. Take the coast road back via Plage du Butin for wide views over the Baie de Seine, and save the evening for a second, unhurried dinner in Honfleur.

Day 5 — A Slow Morning, Then Home

No itinerary for the last morning — that’s the point. A last coffee on the quays, one more walk through a street you missed, perhaps a return visit to a gallery that caught your eye on day one. Check out by 11am with Honfleur properly, unhurriedly, seen.

Côté Pays d'Auge: A Detour into the Countryside

If you’re extending your stay, the Pays d’Auge offers postcard landscapes — half-timbering, apple orchards, cheese farms, cider and calvados routes. Lisieux, Beuvron-en-Auge and Deauville are all within about half an hour to 45 minutes of La Petite Folie, easy additions to any of the days above.

When to Plan a Romantic Weekend in Honfleur

Low Season: The Couples' Secret

If you want Honfleur to yourselves, choose November, January, February or March. The town empties of day-trippers, restaurants offer more attentive menus, and the cobbled streets feel like your own. This is the Honfleur discreet couples — and the artists before them — have always loved.

Spring and Autumn: The Painters' Light

April–May and September–October bring the best light — the very light that made Honfleur famous. Temperatures are mild, terraces are open, and crowds stay reasonable. It’s the ideal window for those who want both a lively town and genuine calm.

Frequently Asked Questions About a Romantic Weekend in Honfleur

Is Honfleur a romantic destination all year round?

Yes, and it’s one of the town’s great strengths. Summer brings a lively, festive harbour and open terraces. Autumn and winter reveal a more intimate, preserved charm that couples particularly love. The light in Honfleur in November or February has an exceptional softness — the same light that inspired the Impressionists.

The Charles Baudelaire apartment (45 sqm, jungle-inspired decor, bathtub) and the Claude Monet apartment (45 sqm, bright glass roof) are the most requested by couples. That said, every apartment has its own romantic character — the right choice depends on your taste and availability.

Yes. Massages are provided on site in our dedicated treatment room, which opens onto the garden. Book in advance with the team to secure your preferred time.

It’s possible but less straightforward: train from Paris Saint-Lazare to Lisieux, then a bus or taxi to Honfleur. A car remains the most practical option (A13 via the Pont de Normandie, about 2 hours). The free Naturospace car park is a 3-minute walk from La Petite Folie.

La Petite Folie is designed primarily for couples and adults. One child, generally from around 6 to 10 years old, can be accommodated, and only in one of the two Prestige apartments. For a family stay, we recommend Le Clos de Grâce, our second property on the hills above Honfleur, with its large grounds, pool and family-friendly gîte and apartments.

Expect an average of €150 to €250 per night at La Petite Folie depending on the apartment and season. Add €40 to €70 per person for dinner at a good restaurant by the harbour, plus a reasonable budget for visits and activities. A full two-night weekend for two typically comes to between €600 and €900 all in.
